It makes both locals and visitors from near and far wonder when they come to Mondsee during Advent. The market square in front of the basilica and the Gothic cloister in the former Benedictine monastery form the ambience for the atmospheric Advent market. It is a special atmosphere when organisers, locals and visitors come together at the food stalls in front of the venerable basilica in the run-up to Christmas, look for original and handmade Christmas gifts in the cloister and admire the musical performances of the artists and clubs.
The centrepiece of "Advent in Mondsee" is the weather-protected Gothic cloister of the former Benedictine monastery, where around 35 craftspeople offer local products and handmade goods every weekend. If you prefer things a little smaller and quieter, you should visit the picturesque Irrsee. Two Advent markets take place there on the 2nd & 3rd Advent weekends in Zell am Moos and Oberhofen, right by the lake. Let yourself be enchanted by the atmosphere with a hot cup of mulled wine and home-made delicacies and enjoy the twinkling lights on the lake.
